Today globalization is ubiquitous, and some believe it is irreversible. Globalization influences on culture takes place as nations become interdependent through commerce and human interaction. This integration contributes to the expansion of cultural ties between global communities.
Some view this global cultural impact positively, while others are cautious about this development. The positive camp will argue that globalization adds value to local culture as it helps to enhance local culture e.g., fusion music, food, and fashion. The sceptics would argue that long held traditions are slowly disappearing due to foreign cultural influences e.g., young people have been lured by foreign culture and losing interest in their own culture.
Do you believe the impact of globalization on culture is positive or negative in the Singapore context? In your comments, you may want to provide some concrete examples for the case you are making.
